Prayer for young adults
Anchors: Exodus 8:28
Lord, I see myself in Pharaoh's words: go and worship, but not too far. Stay close enough that I can pull You back if I need to.
I have been doing the same thing. Yes, I will read the Bible, but not so much that it changes my whole morning. Yes, I will give, but not enough to feel it. Yes, I will be honest, but not when it might cost me a friend. Yes, I will follow You, but only so far. I want to be able to come back to my old life whenever it gets hard.
But You did not call Your people to go partway. You led them all the way out. You led them into the desert, away from the bricks, into freedom. Halfway was not an option then. It is not an option now.
So today, I stop making deals with myself. Where I have been holding back, let me let go. The bigger gift. The hard talk. The longer time with You. The firm no to old habits. Let me walk into them, not just toward them.
The desert with You is better than the brick piles without You. Take me far enough from my old life that the pull to go back loses its grip. Go further with me today than I let You go yesterday.
Amen.
