Prayer for young adults
Anchors: Psalm 12:1
Father, help, Lord.
Psalm 12 starts with just two words. That is the shortest cry in all the psalms. David was overwhelmed. He could not find more words. So he said, Help, Lord. And that was enough.
I know that feeling. The noise in my head is so loud I cannot build a sentence. I am too tired for the long prayer. Too worn down to try. So I go quiet. I figure You already know. I figure silence is close enough.
But the psalm shows me something better than silence. It shows me the two-word prayer. Help, Lord. That is the whole prayer. I do not need to explain. I do not need to clean myself up first. I just need to say the words. You are not insulted by how short they are. You meet me in them.
So today, when the overwhelm comes, do not let me stay silent. Give me the two words. Help, Lord. On the train. In the elevator. In the middle of the meeting. Before the hard talk. After the bad news. I do not need a quiet room. I do not need to have it together. I just need to turn toward You, even in the smallest way.
Hear the two words today. You know what I need before I say it. Take my small cry and answer with Your full love.
Amen.
