Good Friday Prayer
Anchors: John 19:30
Lord Jesus, You said, "It is finished," and You bowed Your head and gave up Your spirit. I keep trying to add my own work to what You did. I bring my efforts and my pain and my good days as if the cross needed a little more from me. It did not. It was finished. On that hill, on a Friday afternoon, the sky went dark and the temple veil tore from top to bottom. The work that saved me was complete. Nothing I do today adds to it. Nothing I have failed to do takes from it. Help me sit with the truth that it is done. The grief at what it cost You is right. The relief at what it accomplished is right. The two go together. Hold me at the foot of the cross long enough today that I leave it lighter than I came. Amen.
