Prayer for grandmothers
Anchors: Isaiah 44:3
Father, You promised in Isaiah 44:3 that You will pour water on the thirsty. Not just a drop. A real pouring. There have been seasons in this long life when my thirst was sharp. The year after Walter died. The two years our granddaughter was lost in addiction. The summer the church was torn by arguing. Those were dry, hard years. You poured then. Sometimes through the phone call I needed at just the right time. Sometimes through a verse that came back to me at just the right hour. Sometimes through a kind word from a neighbor who had no idea what I was going through. Lord, today is not as dry as those seasons. The thirst this morning is small, like wanting a quiet drink of water. Still, the verse is for today too. Pour what I need for this ordinary morning. Not the big pouring from the hard years. Just the right small amount for today. Keep the deep water flowing under the ground. Make me like a tree whose roots reach the water, so I do not have to beg for every drink. Pour today's portion. I will take it gladly. Amen.
