Prayer for grandmothers

Anchors: Psalm 92:4

Lord, You have made me glad through Your work. Not my mood. Not my luck. Your work. Father, what work of Yours has made me glad recently? Let me name them one by one. The way the grandson's letter came on Saturday with his own handwriting. The way the doctor's call on Wednesday brought good news. The way my friend in the nursing home, who is fading, asked me to read Psalm 23 with her, and she still knew every word. The way the tomato plant I almost gave up on is still making fruit in this heat. Each of these is Your work. None of them is mine. Lord, the gladness comes when I name Your works one at a time. Not all at once in a fuzzy feeling. One by one, the way someone polishes silver. Today let me keep naming them. Let me write three more in the small notebook by the chair tonight. The gladness is real because the works are real. Keep me watching for Your works. Let my old age be a long list of named gladnesses. Amen.
