Prayer for grandmothers

Lord Jesus, Colossians 3:4 says You are our life. Not just the One who helps our life. Not just the One who adds to our life. You are our life.

Father, there was a time I would have read that verse and moved on. Now I see it differently. The things I once called my life have slipped away, one by one. People I loved are with You. Work I once did is done. The children are grown. My body does not work the way it used to.

What is left is You.

Lord Jesus, You are not one more thing on the shelf of my life. You are the shelf. When the other things are taken down, You are still there. That steadies me. There is less to lose than there used to be. There is more to rest on.

Today let me live as if You really are my life. Not just a part of my Sunday. Not just a piece of my week. The actual life. The work of the morning. The lunch on a tray. The rest in the afternoon. The quiet song at the window in the evening. Carry all of it, Lord. You are the life behind it all.

Hold me there.
