Grandmothers
Prayer for grandmothers
Anchors: Numbers 2:31
Lord, in Your camp, someone always had to walk at the back. The tribe of Dan marched there, guarding the rear, watching for anyone who fell behind. I understand that place now. Younger women lead. Younger families fill the front pews. I sit farther back, partly by season, partly by choice. Help me hold the back honorably. The back is not less spiritual. It is where I notice things the front cannot — who is lagging, who has dropped something, who needs an arm. Father, give me eyes for the back-of-the-line work today. The phone call to the woman whose husband is in hospice. The note to the young pastor's wife whose father is sick. The pew-mate who has been too quiet lately. I do not have to lead anything. I have to march faithfully at my appointed place and watch out for those You set near me. Amen.
