Grandmothers
Prayer for grandmothers
Anchors: Romans 1:7
Lord, I am still trying to live up to what You called me to.
Romans 1:7 is the verse my old pastor underlined in my Bible the year I joined the church. He drew a careful circle around the word called and wrote the year in the margin. I have looked at that pencil mark for many years.
I do not feel like a saint this morning. I feel slow getting started. I said something sharp to my daughter on the phone yesterday. I could not remember the second verse of a hymn last Sunday.
But the calling did not start with how I feel. It started with You. You called me. You have been at work in me ever since. The growing has been Your work, and I have had to say yes to it along the way.
Today, called means showing up to one small obedience. The thank You note I have been putting off. The phone call I have been avoiding. A few quiet minutes of prayer for someone in my family who is far from You.
Keep me from spending the day rehearsing how far short I have fallen. Give me one plain act of faithfulness, done in the light, with no one watching but You.
That is enough for today.
Amen.
