Prayer for grandmothers

Father, Your Word says we have no lasting city here, but we are looking for the one that is coming, the one You have prepared. Hebrews 13:14.

I am old enough now to feel how true that is. This house is not my final home. This country is not my final home, though I love it. The lasting city is the one Your Son went ahead to prepare.

So I am learning to live lightly here. Gladly. With real affection for the people and places I know. But with my heart always looking toward what is ahead.

Let me keep that looking gentle today. Not anxious. Not in a hurry. Just the quiet knowing that the city is coming, the One who prepared it is sure, and the looking forward is the right posture for a daughter still on the road.

I sit here at my table, by this window, on this ordinary day, and the journey has been good. The end will be better.
