Prayer for grandmothers

Anchors: Hebrews 13:8

Father, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8. That truth is the steady ground under all my changing days. The Lord I prayed to in my parents' house has not changed. The Lord I prayed to in the hard early years of marriage has not changed. The Lord I prayed to over hospital beds, over my children's confirmations, and over the casket of my friend who went too soon has not changed. The Lord I am praying to this morning is the same one. The world has changed. My body has changed. The people closest to me are fewer now. Some of what I once believed strongly has grown deeper, and some has softened. But none of that changes who You are. Same yesterday. Same today. Same forever. Let me rest in that this morning. The future I do not yet know is still in Your hands. The death I am not ready to face is a door You hold open, not a wall. Whatever comes next in this life, I will meet the same Lord. This sameness is not boring. It is the only firm floor in a house where everything else is moving. Stand me on it again today. Amen.
