Prayer for grandmothers

Father, and God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31.

Father, You said it first. Very good. You meant it.

The world is not the way it was in the beginning. We know that. But Your good word has not gone away.

I see it more now that I am older. The light through my kitchen window this morning is good. The smell of the coffee is good. The sound of the cardinal in the maple tree, the one I have heard most mornings for years, is good.

These are not small things. They are Your gifts, still here, still signed with Your name.

Help me notice the good in this ordinary Wednesday. Not to pretend the hard things are not real. They are. But the hard things have not been louder than You.

You still look at what You made and call it good. That word has not been taken back.

Let me say it with You, in small ways, with a glad and unhurried heart.
