Prayer for grandmothers

Anchors: Genesis 1:4

Father, the sun is going down on another day. I sat by the window long enough to see the line of light move across the carpet. Genesis 1:4 says You divided the light from the darkness, and that small sentence has been with me all afternoon. You still do that work. I cannot. Left to myself, I would mix it all together. I would call some things grace when they were not. I would call some things failure when they were really mercy I did not recognize. So divide it for me now. Tell me what was light, and let me be glad for it. Tell me what was darkness, and let me confess it and leave it with You. The phone call I cut short out of impatience, not tiredness. The unkind thought about the neighbor who really cannot help it. The minutes I spent comparing instead of praying. Forgive what needs forgiving, and put it under the blood of Your Son. Keep what should be kept, and let me carry it into tomorrow as instruction instead of weight. I am ready to be done with today. I am ready to close my eyes inside Your light, which the darkness has never overcome. Amen.
