Prayer for dads

Father, Your Word talks about people who swore by You and also by other gods. Half-loyal worship. They showed up at the temple, then went and burned incense somewhere else, just to be safe.

I do something like that too, in quieter ways. I trust You for salvation, but I trust the market for my retirement. I confess You on Sunday, and on Monday I still care too much about who approves of me. I say You are the center, but I keep small backup altars on the side.

Burn down those backup altars in me. The places where I have hedged. Not to make me reckless, but to bring me into single-hearted worship. This split life is more exhausting than full commitment.

Lord Jesus, You want my whole heart. Take it completely. Let me stop sneaking off to other gods after dark.
