Prayer for dads

Father, Revelation 21:23 says the new city has no need of sun or moon, because the Lamb is its light. That picture stays with me — a place where Jesus Himself is all the light there is.

Most of my light comes from other things. My mood depends on how the weekend went. My peace depends on the kid being okay. My energy depends on the coffee. None of those are bad, but none of them last.

Teach me to go straight to You for real light. Not just as words, but as something I actually do — a few quiet minutes with You before the day takes over, a quick prayer when things get heavy, turning back to You when the afternoon gets dim.

Lord Jesus, You are the light I will see by forever. Let some of that start now. Help me carry it home from work in my eyes, where my wife and kids can see it without me having to explain.
