Prayer for dads

Father, in the book of Ruth, chapter 2, Ruth went out to glean. That means she walked behind the workers and picked up what they left at the edge of the field. She did not own the land. She did not demand more. She took what was left and was thankful.

A new month is here. I do not want to start it like I am owed an easy road. I want to come to You with open hands. Help me notice the small good things You leave for me along the way. A surprise laugh with my kids. A work meeting that goes fine. A quiet afternoon with the sun through the window and a hot cup of coffee.

Free me from thinking I deserve more than what You give. That kind of thinking ruins the good things right in front of me. Ruth was noticed because she showed up and worked with a humble heart. Help me show up the same way, not to earn Your love, but because I already have it.

Lord Jesus, You give enough for today. Teach me to receive it with thanks and not to grab for more.
